Benefits Questions and Answers
-
My application for Medicaid (MA) was denied. What should
I do?
You must appeal within the time indicated in the notice of denial. If you do
not appeal, you will probably have to reapply again. Once you appeal, you
should gather all medical records and information to show that you suffer
from a condition or series of conditions which do not allow you to work
(engage in any substantial activity). (See the instruction on appeal of MA
denial)
-
My food stamps have been lowered. What can I do?
You should have received a notice indicating the reduction of food stamps.
You can appeal. You should also contact your case worker for an explanation
of the reduction.
-
I have applied for unemployment benefits and have been
denied. What should I do?
You can appeal the denial and request a hearing. You should ask the
Employment Security Commission to provide you copies of the reasons your
employer gave for your separation from employment. If you were discharged,
your employer has the burden of showing that you were separated for
misconduct. If you quit, you have the burden to show good cause for
quitting.
