School Questions and Answers
-
My grandson lives with me. I do not have custody. Now the school
does not allow me to enroll him in school. They tell me that I need
custody. What can I do?
You may qualify for an educational affidavit. Ask the school to
provide you a form. If the school district does not provide you
with this form, you can contact the local legal aid office for assistance.
An educational affidavit allows a caretaker, such as you, to enroll
a child in school. The criteria for enrollment using an affidavit
is: death or incarceration of a parent, abandonment (which means
the parent has given up significant but not all financial support
and parental control), inability to care for the child(ren) because
of illness or other conditions.
