The Legal Aid of North Carolina Client Council (or "Client Council") serves
as an advisory committee to
Legal Aid of North Carolina ("LANC") and provides critical client
input and perspective for development of policies, training plans, community
education and outreach, as well as other matters. The Client Council provides a
statewide forum for clients of Legal Aid of North Carolina to express their needs,
comments and/or concerns.

Mission
The Mission of the Legal Aid of North Carolina Client Council is to educate
and empower poor and low-income citizens regarding rights, responsibilities
and available resources necessary for them to achieve economic, political
and social justice.
The Client Council typically meets quarterly (every three months)
for a day-long meeting.
The Client Council includes all client representatives of the Legal Aid of North Carolina Board of Directors, plus all of the client representatives
of the local advisory of Legal Aid of North Carolina offices or regions and any
interested members of the community.
The Client Council may propose recommendations to the Legal Aid of North Carolina Board of Directors.
Goals of the Legal Aid of North Carolina Client Council

To provide education and training to client communities so that
they can better advocate for themselves, secure needed goods and
services and educate future generations.

To advocate on behalf of clients to expand the range of
community
and technical resources available to them.

To provide individual clients and organizations with the
opportunity
to develop networks—to share successes and failures
and to provide
mutual support.

To conduct local fundraising activities for Legal Aid communities.

To promote and otherwise support projects of Legal Aid of North
Carolina.

was established in 2004 by the LANC Client Council.

....The Support Service Award recognizes a
recognizes an individual who is working with a legal services or
community organization, has made outstanding contribution(s) in
support of the LANC Client Council, has exhibited distinguished service on behalf of the low-income community in North Carolina;
and has made significant efforts to encourage community partnerships, empower low-income people and
remove legal barriers to economic opportunity in North Carolina.
This award was established in 2008 by the LANC Client Council.
