The legal staff of Legal Aid of North Carolina-Asheville Office provides
high quality legal assistance in civil matters to eligible, low-income
clients who have problems with their basic needs and live in the six-county
area surrounding Asheville, NC:
Buncombe County,
Henderson County,
Madison County,
Polk County,
Rutherford County or
Transylvania County.

Office Hours and Intake
Hours
Office hours: 8:30AM-5:00PM (Monday-Friday)
Intake hours: 9:00AM-4:00PM - Tuesdays only
Apply for help by calling our toll-free intake line 1-800-849-5666 during
intake appointment hours. An intake clerk will ask you about your income,
household size and legal problem (This information is strictly confidential).
We will call you within a few days and tell you whether or not we can
represent you.
Types of Cases Accepted
Legal Aid of North Carolina - Asheville Office cannot help people with criminal
cases. However, the Asheville Office can help people with civil cases,
including the following:

Family Law
...family law problems where domestic violence is involved.
Education Law
...cases involving services for children with special needs, as
well as discipline/suspension/expulsion cases.
Employment Law
...including problems with wage claims, unemployment
compensation and discrimination.
Public Benefits Law
...cases involving Social Security overpayments.
Senior Citizens
...legal problems of seniors which have statewide
impact.

"Absolute Divorce, Pro Se Plus Clinic"
...A 15-page document was developed by the Asheville office of
Legal Aid of North Carolina for low-income residents of Buncombe County who
participate in the Pro Se Plus Divorce Clinic. The document provides
a summary of divorce law in North Carolina and instructions for
filing the necessary forms in Buncombe County District Court for
clinic participants. To determine eligibility for the clinic and
to receive forms for divorce, please contact the Asheville office
during the designated intake hours as listed on the intake section
of this website.
