The legal staff of Legal Aid of North Carolina - Wilson Office
provides legal assistance in civil matters (non-criminal matters) to eligible,
low-income clients who have problems with their basic needs and live in the
six-county area surrounding Wilson, NC:
Edgecombe County,
Greene County,
Lenoir County,
Nash County,
Wayne County and
Wilson County. The LANC-Wilson office also supports two offices in

Types of Cases Handled
Legal Aid of North Carolina cannot help people with criminal cases. However, we can
help people with civil cases, including the advice or representation on the
following:
Public Benefits
...AFDC, WORKFIRST program, Food Stamps,
Social Security and
SSI.
Housing
...mortgage foreclosures, landlord/tenant disputes,
evictions,
utilities, public and subsidized housing.
Senior Citizens matters
...nursing homes, insurance, wills, and
powers of attorney.
Consumer:
...contracts, loans, debt collection, repossessions,
credit problems,
unfair or deceptive trade practices and
bankruptcy.
Health
...Medicare, Medicaid, Hill-Burton and hospital bills.
Family Law
...domestic violence and other limited areas.
Employment
...unemployment compensation, wage disputes,
discrimination and
state employee discharges.
Education
...student and parent rights, discipline problems, and
special
education.
Civil Rights
...Discrimination based on race, sex, age, religion,
handicap and
other violations of state and federal law.
Special Projects

Domestic Violence Initiative (Based in the Goldsboro office)
...Provides legal representation for domestic violence victims in
all
six counties. We also provide monthly custody clinics for
client-eligible individuals.

Community Legal Education
...Provides presentations to client groups and social services
agencies regarding the legal rights of low-income people.
