Mayor Joines to speak at Legal Aid of North Carolina open house in Winston-Salem

(Winston-Salem, NC) – Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC), one of the largest nonprofit law firms in North Carolina, will welcome the public to view its new Winston-Salem office at Liberty Plaza, 102 West Third Street in downtown Winston-Salem during the week of September 27-30.

The open house will begin at 12:00 Noon each day and include welcoming comments from community leaders. Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines will speak at the open house at 2:30 pm on Monday, September 30, which LANC has designated as "Government Officials Day" at its Winston-Salem office

"We are inviting the public to visit our new location in Winston-Salem, meet our staff, learn more about our services and meet with community leaders," said Hazel Mack-Hilliard, senior managing attorney of LANC-Winston-Salem office. "Refreshments will be served, and our staff will be available to explain the legal services offered by Legal Aid of North Carolina."

LANC originally established a Winston-Salem office in 2002 during the consolidation of various legal aid programs in North Carolina. This past August, the LANC-Winston-Salem office was moved to Liberty Plaza, 102 Third Street to better serve its clients in the six-county area surrounding Winston-Salem.

The LANC-Winston-Salem Office serves clients from Davie, Forsyth, Iredell, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties and provides free legal advice and representation to low-income people who have issues related to landlord-tenant problems, unfair consumer practices, family law, employment issues, public benefits, and concerns with education in NC public schools.

The schedule for the week (Monday-Thursday) is as follows:

In addition, the LANC-Winston-Salem Office will hold a reception by invitation on Thursday, September 30, 4:00-6:00 PM at Liberty Plaza, with an address by Chief District Court Judge William B.
