Domestic violence prevention training for attorneys on October 4
(Raleigh, NC) – In conjunction with Domestic Violence Awareness Month in
North Carolina, the Raleigh offices of Hunton & Williams and Legal Aid of North
Carolina (LANC) will sponsor a training for lawyers on domestic violence
protective orders.
The three-and-one-half hour training, “How to Represent a Victim in
Obtaining a Domestic Violence Protective Order,” will be held at the
Hunton & Williams offices, One Hannover Square, Suite 1400 in downtown
Raleigh on Wednesday, October 4, from 3:30-7:00 PM. Participants may apply
for CLE hours.
“This is the second year that we’ve held this training,” noted Suzanne
Chester, LANC managing attorney and coordinator for the event.
“Registration is free, but we ask for a commitment for each participant to
represent at least one domestic violence victim in a 50B protective order
proceeding in Wake County each year.”
Participants will receive guidance on the typical process and legal steps
necessary to represent victims of domestic violence. Trainers for the
event will include: Lisa Angel of the
Rosen Law Firm and LANC
attorneys Suzanne Chester and Amy Vukovich from LANC’s
Domestic
Violence Prevention Initiative (DVPI) unit. Additionally, a question
and answer session, "View from the Bench," will be presented by the Honorable
Jennifer Green, district court judge in Wake County. Participants will
also receive a comprehensive training manual at no cost.
