Legal Aid of NC elects new directors

(Raleigh, NC) – Ten North Carolinians were elected to serve on the
board of directors
of Legal Aid of
North Carolina (LANC) during the 2007 LANC Annual Meeting in
Asheville, N.C.
The new
directors include:
Thomas S. Berkau of Smithfield (attorney
at law); John
J. Bowers of Durham (attorney with
Womble
Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC); Susan Perry Cole of Raleigh
(general public representative); Sharon Greig of Pantego (client
representative);
Celeste M. Harris of Winston-Salem (attorney with
Maynard & Harris, PLLC);
Shirley Jones of Rocky Mount (client representative);
William H. Lambe, Jr. of Durham (attorney with
Lambe, Rhudy & Costley, PLLC);
Kristoffer B. Shepard of Charlotte (attorney with
Robinson Bradshaw & Hinson, PA);
Alice Tejada
of Raleigh (attorney with
Scutter & Hedrick);
and
S. Kyle Woosley of Greensboro (attorney with
Brooks, Pierce, McLendon,
Humphrey & Leonard, LLP).
The LANC Board of Directors also elected its officers for two-year
terms, including: Chair:
Glenn A. Barfield
of Goldsboro (attorney with
Haithcock, Barfield,
Hulse and Kinsey, PLLC); Vice-Chair:
Lisa
Morgan of Durham (attorney with the
North Carolina Central University
School of Law); Treasurer:
Burton Craige
of Raleigh (attorney with
Patterson Harkavy LLP); and Secretary: Phillip Leigh of Creswell
(client representative).
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) is a statewide, nonprofit law
firm that provides free legal services in civil matters to eligible,
low-income people in all 100 counties in North Carolina through 24,
geographically located offices in North Carolina. LANC’s clients
typically have an annual income of 125% or less of the federally
established poverty levels. In 2005, LANC closed more than
19,000 cases across North Carolina.
