Kristoffer B. Shepard elected to board of directors of Legal Aid
of NC

Kristoffer B. Shepard of Charlotte
was elected for a three-year term to the
board of directors of
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC)
during the 2007 LANC Annual Meeting in Asheville, N.C.
Shepard will serve on the LANC Board as a
representative from the 26th Judicial District (Mecklenburg County).
Shepard is an attorney in the law firm of
Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson, PA, in Charlotte, and is a
2003 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law. He also
has a M.A. and Ph.D in History from Emory University and a B.A. from
the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he graduated
with highest honors.
Among his professional activities, Shepard serves on the
Public Service Advisory Committee of the NC Bar Association and on
the Bar 2010 Committee of the Mecklenburg County Bar; and he also
serves on the Exhibits Programs and Collections Committee of the
Levine Museum of the New South.
Shepard is the author of Rationing Justice: Poverty Lawyers and
Poor People in the Deep South, 1965-1996 (LSU Press, 2007) and
co-editor of A Call to Conscience: The Landmark Speeches of Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (IPM/Warner Books, 2001). He also
maintains an active pro bono practice through the Volunteer Lawyers
Program of the Mecklenburg County Bar and Legal Services of the
Southern Piedmont.
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC)
is a statewide, nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services
in civil matters to eligible, low-income people in all 100 counties
in North Carolina through 24, geographically located offices in
North Carolina. LANC’s clients typically have an annual income
of 125% or less of the federally established poverty levels.
