Legal Aid of North Carolina to hold community legal clinics in Rocky
Mount and Sharpsville

Rocky Mount, NC) – Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) will be
holding community legal clinics on education issues in Rocky Mount
on Thursday, March 23 at the Community Based Program, and in
Sharpsburg on Saturday, March 24 at the Sharpsburg Town Hall.
Attorneys will be available to answer parents’ questions about their
children’s education, including questions about school suspensions
or expulsions, special education and getting help for children who
are struggling academically.
“Our attorneys will be available to answer specific questions and
offer advice,” says David Sapp, staff attorney for LANC’s Advocates
for Children’s Services unit. “We will also help
parents draft letters to their schools addressing their concerns.
We will also provide a copy of our booklet ‘Parent’s Guide to Public
Education’.”
The community clinic is a joint project of LANC, NC Care and REACH.
Only four, half-hour time slots are available for each day of the
community legal clinics. The Community Based Clinic is located
at 621 N. Church Street in Rocky Mount. The Sharpsville Town
Hall is at 110 Railroad Street in Sharpsburg.
Parents who desire to attend the clinic will need to call in advance
to reserve a time slot to talk with an attorney. To reserve a
time slot to speak to an attorney, call Advocates for
Children’s Services, 919-226-0052.
Legal Aid of North Carolina is a statewide, nonprofit law firm that
provides free legal services in civil matters to eligible,
low-income people in all 100 counties in North Carolina through 24,
geographically located offices in North Carolina. LANC’s
clients typically have an annual income of 125% or less of the
federally established poverty levels.
