September 25, 2009 Media Release

(Pittsboro, NC) – The Chatham County Arts Council (Chatham Arts) has established its first "satellite gallery" at the Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) office in Pittsboro.

More than 50 pieces from seven Chatham County artists are currently on display at the LANC office located at 959 East Street. The art includes work from Meg Daniels, Murry Handler, John Makowski, Ruth Morgan, Eric Saunders Richard Seed, and Doug Trimble.

"We are pleased to help the arts council expand the visibility of the work of local artists," said Kari Hamel, managing attorney of the LANC-Pittsboro Office. "The display of their art here allows our clients, staff and community to experience their work first hand, which we feel is particularly uplifting."

Molly Matlock, ChathamArts executive director, agrees.

"This satellite gallery at the Legal Aid office is a model of agency collaboration in Chatham County," noted Matlock. "This gives LANC clients and the community another chance to view the works of our local artists and, indeed, to realize how the arts contribute to a higher level of life."

In addition to providing the weekly displays, the LANC -Pittsboro Office will participate in the annual Art Walk from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m on Sunday, October 4. A kids' workshop from 12:00-1:00 PM will be part of the event. John Makowski, a local artist, will conduct the participatory, hands-on experience for the children. In addition, each guest will receive a piece of art. Makowski is a well-known ceramist whose works are exhibited on both coasts of the United States.

"The art at the Legal Aid office here is very diverse," noted John Makowski. "The art includes ceramics, photography, painting, woodwork and pottery."
