elected to Board of Directors of Legal Aid of NC

Charles R. Holton of Durham was elected for to the
board of
directors of Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) during the 2009 LANC
Annual Meeting in Winston-Salem, NC.
Holton will serve on the LANC Board as a representative from the
14th Judicial District (Durham County).
Holton is an attorney and partner in the law firm of
Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC, in Research Triangle
Park, NC, and concentrates his practice in handling health care
litigation matters. He is also experienced in handling construction
litigation and contracting matters. Holton has been in litigation
practice for more than thirty years, practicing in all area state
and federal courts.
Holton is a 1973 graduate of the Duke University School of Law.
Among his professional associations, Holton is a member of the NC
State Bar; NC Bar Association; Braxton Craven Inn of Court; and the
American Arbitration Association National Panel of Arbitrators. He
also serves as an adjunct professor of law, teaching The Law and
Practice of Arbitration at the Duke Law School.
Holton also has served on the Local Advisory Committee for the
Legal Aid of NC-Durham Office and has demonstrated a long-term
commitment to serving the low-income community through his work on
his firm's pro bono committee. He has taken numerous pro bono cases
referred by Legal Aid of NC and has also helped recruit new pro bono
attorneys, train them and match them with different legal projects
being handled by Legal Aid of NC.
Legal Aid of
North Carolina (LANC) is a statewide, nonprofit law firm that
provides free legal services in civil matters to eligible,
low-income people in all 100 counties in North Carolina through 24,
geographically located offices in North Carolina. LANC’s clients
typically have an annual income of 125% or less of the federally
established poverty levels.
