Foreclosure prevention forum and clinic at NCCU School of Law on Saturday April 4
March 23, 2009 Media Release

(Durham, NC) – Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) and the NC Central University (NCCU) School of Law are teaming up to provide a community forum and clinic on foreclosure prevention on Saturday April 4 at the NCCU School of Law in Durham.

“With mortgage foreclosures hitting record levels both nationally and regionally, we felt it important to reach out to the Durham community to address concerns about mortgage foreclosure,” says Pamela Thombs, a managing attorney for LANC’s Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention Project. “We also see the need to provide free direct assistance to individuals who may have pending mortgage foreclosures.”

The Community Foreclosure Prevention Forum will be held 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon at the NCCU School of Law and is open to the general public. The Forum will discuss foreclosure topics such as: “How did this mortgage crisis occur?”; “How am I affected by this crisis?”; What can I do to save my home?”; How does the mortgage foreclosure process work?”; and “Can I negotiate a change in my mortgage?”

NC House Representative Larry D. Hall of the 29th District will be the keynote speaker at the Forum.

Following the forum, a clinic will be provided from 12:00 noon to 3:00 PM by appointment to the first 30 who register. The clinic will provide direct assistance to individuals who are facing pending mortgage foreclosures. Law students from NCCU will be working with and under the supervision of Professor Timothy Peterkin from the NCCU School of Law Foreclosure Clinic. Participants will need to bring their mortgage documents to their appointments.

To register for the Community Foreclosure Prevention Clinic, call Chris McCallum at 1-800-824-5340.
