Legal Aid helps Spanish-speaking client…

A sample of cases handled by Legal Aid of North Carolina

Note: This is an actual case submitted by an attorney from the Legal Aid of North Carolina office in Concord, NC.

A Cabarrus County man needed help from Legal Aid to help recover his $2,500 deposit on a mobile home and contacted the Legal Aid office in Concord, NC.

Mr. X is a Spanish-speaking person who does not read English. He had signed a contractual agreement to purchase a mobile home and had paid a $2,500 down payment.

The seller had promised him financing at a specific rate, but later the seller told Mr. X that financing was unavailable at the agreed-upon rate and that Mr. X would have to accept a less favorable financing arrangement. Mr. X refused and demanded a return of his deposit. The seller would not return the deposit, and Mr. X contacted Legal Aid.

A Spanish-speaking Legal Aid attorney filed a suit on Mr. X’s behalf and secured a money judgment for him. The attorney was able to recover the full $2,500 plus interest.
