Mission Statement
"Legal Aid of North Carolina is a statewide, nonprofit law firm
that provides free legal services in civil matters to low-income people
in order to ensure equal access to justice and to remove legal barriers
to economic opportunity."
Mission Statement approved by the Board of Directors of Legal Aid
of North Carolina, Inc. on December 12, 2003.
To achieve our mission
Legal Aid of North Carolina's (LANC's) expert team of attorneys, paralegals, and
support staff work in the community in a variety of ways:
- Counsel clients
- Advocate for clients before courts and agencies
- Partner with community based organizations
- Provide community education through workshops and seminars
LANC's priorities include our dedication to our clients, to ensure:
- family stability
- equal opportunity to health for disabled persons
- safe and decent affordable housing
- economic self-sufficiency
- equal opportunity in education
- consumer protection.
AND THAT:
- clients are treated fairly, are not subject to discrimination,
and are able to exercise their constitutional rights
- victims of natural disasters receive the benefits and/or services
to which they are or may become entitled
- migrant workers are afforded equal opportunity to live and work
safely and in accordance with federal, state and international law
- Federal Recognition efforts advance procedurally
- low-income clients and their communities have a safe and healthy
environment
- low-income children have equal opportunity to receive services
to which they are entitled
- eligible clients have greater access to civil legal services
and the court system
