Background:
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) is seeking a Part-Time
Domestic paralegal to work in its
Winston-Salem office, which provides free legal assistance in
civil matters to low-income persons in Forsyth,
Davie, Iredell, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin counties of North Carolina. LANC is a statewide,
nonprofit [501(c)(3)] law
firm that provides free legal services in civil matters in all 100
counties of North Carolina
primarily to those households whose income falls below 125% of the
federal poverty guidelines.
Responsibilities & Duties:
The successful candidate will provide
general outreach, intake and referral to appropriate community
resources for clients accessing the Safe on Seven
Center
(“SOS”). SOS is the Forsyth County
Domestic
Violence
Center, a multi-agency
partnership providing services to victims of domestic violence in
one centralized location. Duties will include staffing the
Forsyth County Safe on Seven Center (“SOS”) on a part-time basis and
performing tasks according to SOS/LANC policies, including but not
limited to, processing Chapter 50B Domestic Violence Protective
Order paperwork and Chapter 50C Civil No- Contact Order paperwork;
serving as a liaison between Legal Aid of North Carolina, Inc. and
the agencies at SOS (“SOS partners”), including but not limited to,
The Forsyth County Clerk of Court and Family Services.
Qualifications:
At least High School Diploma required and
a degree in Paralegal Studies or Paralegal Certification/prior
experience working in the area of domestic violence preferred;
excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent
organization skills; commitment to working with low-income and
diverse populations; must be fluent in Spanish; must enjoy contact
with the public.
Salary:
$12,000/year.
