Background:
Legal Aid of North
Carolina (LANC)
is seeking a full-time Staff Attorney to work in its
Boone office, which provides free legal assistance in civil
matters to low-income persons in Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Mitchell,
Watauga, Wilkes, and Yancey Counties of
North Carolina. The selected applicant
will be trained and engaged in our general civil law practice, which
includes advocacy in the areas of housing, benefits, consumer,
employment, family law/domestic violence, elder law, community
economic development, and education matters. LANC is a
statewide, nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services in
civil matters to households whose income falls below 125% of the
federal poverty guidelines.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Interviewing and handling all facets of
cases in civil law matters, including domestic violence, family,
employment, housing, public education, consumer, public benefits and
other areas; providing outreach and legal education to the community
in our service area; and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
North Carolina Bar license required.
Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to public interest
law and a desire to work in a collaborative, relaxed and congenial
environment. Spanish speaking applicants are encouraged to

Salary:
$39,000+ DOE. Excellent benefits
and leave package. Relaxed office atmosphere.
