Background:
Legal Aid of North
Carolina (LANC)
is seeking a staff attorney to work in its
Concord office, which provides free legal assistance in civil
matters to low-income persons in Anson, Cabarrus, Stanly, and Union
counties of North Carolina. LANC is a statewide, nonprofit
(501-c-3) law firm that provides free legal services in civil
matters to those households whose income falls below 125% of the
federal poverty guidelines.
Responsibilities & Duties:
The selected applicant will interview, advise and represent
low-income clients in civil matters, with an emphasis on domestic
violence and housing cases, provide outreach and community legal
education in the
LANC-Concord Office’s service area, and perform other related
responsibilities that may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Must be licensed to practice law in North
Carolina. For those not currently licensed, an offer of
permanent employment will be contingent upon being licensed, via
exam or comity, in North Carolina. We are looking for a zealous
advocate with a demonstrated commitment to legal advocacy for
low-income people and a desire to work in a collaborative
environment. An appreciation for diversity is essential. An
eagerness to litigate issues helpful to our client base is highly
desirable. Entry-level and experienced applicants will be
considered for this position. The selected applicant must possess a
NC driver’s license and have reliable transportation as travel
through the office’s service area may be required for both public
education and advocacy efforts.
Salary:
$39,000.00+ DOE. Excellent benefits
package. Relaxed office atmosphere.
