Background:
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC)
is a nonprofit [501(c)(3)] law firm and provides free legal
assistance in civil matters to the economically most vulnerable
households in the state. Our services are limited generally to
those clients whose household incomes fall below 125% of the federal
poverty guidelines. We serve all 100 counties of
North Carolina with offices and special
projects located throughout the state. Successful applicants must
be willing to relocate to the community and office posting of the
vacancy or position.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Interview, advise and represent low-income clients in civil
matters in court and administrative hearings; provide knowledgeable
outreach and community legal education; work collaboratively with
partner organizations to reduce poverty; and perform other related
responsibilities that may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Must be licensed to practice law in North Carolina. Must possess a NC
driver’s license and reliable transportation as travel through the
office’s service will be required. High proficiency in Spanish
is a plus (and sometimes required). LANC seeks highly organized, zealous advocates with demonstrated
commitment to legal advocacy for low-income people. An
appreciation for diversity is essential. Entry-level and
experienced applicants may be considered.
Salary:
$40,100 + D.O.E.; excellent benefits and leave package.
