Support Service Award
The Support Service Award recognizes a
recognizes an individual who is working with a legal services or
community organization and meets the following criteria:
(1) Has made outstanding contribution(s) in support of the Legal
Aid of NC Clients Council;
(2) Has exhibited distinguished service on behalf of the
low-income community in North Carolina;
and
(3) Has made significant efforts to encourage community
partnerships, empower low-income people and
remove
legal barriers to economic opportunity in
North Carolina.
Selection of the Community Service Award
recipient is approved by a committee appointed by the chair of the
Legal Aid of NC Clients Council.
Presentation of the Community Service Award is typically made at the
biennial North Carolina Legal Services Statewide Conference or as
deemed appropriate by the Legal Aid of NC Clients Council.
Support Service Award Recipients
The first Support Service Award was presented
posthumously to Peter Carter (former staff
attorney, Legal Aid of North Carolina - New Bern Office) on April 2, 2008 at the 2008 North Carolina
Legal Services Statewide Conference. Mrs. Shirley Carter (the
wife of Peter Carter)
accepted the award on his behalf. Williams E. Williams,
