Free Tax Return Preparation!

Have your tax return prepared for free at selected locations in North Carolina.  Don't forget to ask if you are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Child Tax Credit.  

Tax return preparation is available in person or using a new TAP-RC virtual preparation service.

  • Tyrrell County CDC, Columbia, NC (Tyrrell & Hyde counties)

  • Senior Center, Belhaven, NC (Beaufort County)

  • New Life CDC, Plymouth, NC (Washington County)

  • Roxboro Housing Authority, Roxboro, NC (Person County)

Want to File Your Own Taxes?
You may be eligible to file your federal and state tax returns online FREE if your income is less than $57,000.  Follow the instructions below to access this service:

 
  Step One:
 Go to www.myfreetaxes.com/legalaidnc and create a user

  account.
  

  Step Two:  Follow the prompts on the screen to complete your return in the
   software.  You will learn if you are eligible for the Earned Income Tax
  Credit (EITC)
and other credits.  If this is your first time to file online, use the
  tips in the Get Organized section.
  

  Step Three:  Find out about other resources that will help you manage your
  finances and build a better future for your family.
