To request help from a Legal Aid of North Carolina office that is offering free tax preparation for the 2010 tax year:
1. Make an appointment;
2. At the scheduled time, come to the Legal Aid of North Carolina office with the documents listed below under Information Needed from Taxpayer.
Information Needed from Taxpayer
Valid
photo ID for taxpayer
[If filing a joint return, a valid photo ID is
also needed for the
spouse.]
Social
Security Card or Individual Tax identification Number
(ITIN) documentation for:
- Taxpayer
- Spouse (required for
joint return only)
- Children or
other household members claimed.
Tax
information:
- W-2 form
for each job held in 2009 (get from employer)
- Other
documents relevant to income
- Spouse must
be present for signatures (e-file return only)
- Bank
account and routing numbers (required for direct
deposit).

You may be eligible to file your federal and state tax
returns online FREE if your income is less than $56,000.
Follow the instructions below to access this service: |

Step One: Go to www.beehive.org/legalaidnc and create a user account.

Step Two: Follow
the prompts on the screen to complete your return in the
TaxCut software. You will learn if you are eligible for the Earned Income Tax
Credit (EITC) and other credits. If this is your first time
to file online, use the
tips in the Get Organized section.

Step
Three: Find
out about other resources that will help you manage your
finances and build a better future for your family.
