Legal Aid of NC to hold its Board of Directors meeting in
Edgecombe
County
September 17, 2010 Media Release
(Rocky Mount, NC)
– The board of directors of
Legal Aid of
North Carolina (LANC) will hold its fall board meeting at the
Edgecombe County Business/Industrial Incubator in Battleboro, NC
on Friday September 24.
As part of its meeting, the LANC board will participate in an
Eastern North Carolina Study Tour, sponsored by the
North Carolina
Association of Community Development Corporations.
The study tour will include a narrated bus tour of
communities experiencing severe economic downturn, site visits and
dialogue with local policy makers.
The intention of the tour will be to familiarize the leadership of
LANC and community development activists with the issues and
strategies being put into place in the
Edgecombe County area, which presently has the highest
joblessness rate in North
Carolina.
“We appreciate this opportunity to learn how the local community
development practitioners and municipal officials in Edgecombe County
are creating plans to stimulate economic recovery,” said George
Hausen, LANC’s executive director. “We want to
explore ways in which we can collaborate in regional economic
transformation.”
The LANC board of directors will also participate in the LANC-Wilson
Office’s 30th anniversary celebration on September 23.
The
LANC-Wilson Office has provided free legal services to
low-income residents of Edgecombe, Greene, Lenoir, Nash,
Wayne and Wilson Counties
since 1980 and was one of the founding partners in the community
economic development movement in
North Carolina.
Local judiciary, private bar and community partners have also been
invited to the 30th Anniversary Celebration reception,
which will be held at the LANC-Wilson Office.
