Legal Aid of North Carolina's Central Intake Unit seeks a
part-time (24 hours per week), permanent intake specialist to quickly and accurately screen potential clients for eligibility, which includes screening for financial eligibility, conflicts of interest, compliance with federal regulations, and compliance with Legal Aid's case acceptance priorities and other policies. The intake specialist will join the Central Intake Unit's intake team in the unit's Raleigh office.
The intake team at the Central Intake Unit is an energetic and enthusiastic team of professionals that serves as Legal Aid's front line and is responsible for opening all case files for the organization. Legal Aid of North Carolina is a statewide, nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services in civil (non-criminal) matters to low-income people in order to ensure equal access to justice and to remove legal barriers to economic opportunity.
Screening clients in a timely manner is critical to Legal Aid's success. A delay during client intake affects the distribution of work to every staff attorney and pro bono coordinator in the organization. An intake specialist is responsible for quickly – but accurately – conducting eligibility screenings for potential clients who apply for help via Legal Aid's toll-free Helpline or online application. Once a potential client is determined to be eligible, the intake specialist will notify Legal Aid's centralized file distribution of the eligible client and provide a short description of relevant aspects of their legal matter.
Legal Aid continually develops new projects to address its clients' evolving legal needs. Intake specialists conduct specialized intake for new Legal Aid projects and provide feedback on how to optimize and streamline these processes from the frontline perspective.
The intake team processes a high volume of calls and online applications. Candidates for this position must have excellent time management skills, the ability to multitask, and excellent interviewing skills. We are interested in applicants who have had extensive experience serving customers or clients, and who can efficiently and patiently interview callers. High school education required. Associates degree preferred. Applicants who are bilingual in English and Spanish are preferred.
$15 an hour
