Legal Aid of North Carolina is seeking a part-time screener/paralegal to work in its Charlotte office, which provides free legal assistance in civil matters to low-income people in Mecklenburg County. Legal Aid of North Carolina is a statewide, 501(c)(3) nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services in civil matters to low-income North Carolinians.
Responsibilities & Duties
Job duties will include interviewing applicants by phone to determine eligibility for services and the facts of the applicants' legal problems; obtaining necessary documents from applicants and third parties, as applicable; entering information obtained from interviews into the case management system; creating case files and presenting the facts of the cases to staff at a weekly case assessment meeting; and performing other duties as assigned.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, excellent data entry and good computer skills. Excellent listening and analytical skills. Ability to work independently and with a team. Commitment to social justice and legal advocacy for the low-income community. Ability to speak Spanish preferred, but not required.
$16.00 an hour/24-hours per week.
