Legal Aid of North Carolina's Pembroke office is seeking a staff attorney whose primary responsibility will be serving victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and dating violence. This is a full-time, temporary position that is dependent on the availability of grant funds. Legal Aid of North Carolina is a statewide, 501(c)(3) nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services in civil matters to low-income North Carolinians.
Responsibilities & Duties
The attorney's primary responsibility will be representing victims seeking protective orders and other ancillary matters that will lead towards a cessation of the violence. The attorney's duties will include, but will not be limited to, providing legal representation, advice and education to clients; liaising with collaborative partners; screening and interviewing clients; assisting with training and recruiting pro bono attorneys; and conducting community outreach.
North Carolina Bar license. The ability to communicate effectively with clients from different backgrounds, government officials, community partners and adversaries. A commitment to assisting low-income people. Other skills sufficient to perform the responsibilities of the job. Spanish-speaking ability is preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience working with low-income people or practicing family law.
$42,100-plus, depending on experience. Excellent benefits package.
