Court Observation (CO) Volunteers

"Court Observation" (CO) Volunteers are asked to attend Small Claims Court hearing at the Forsyth County Hall of Justice and fill out a court observation form.  Hearings are held Monday-Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.  The feed back from this form will allow us to adjust our educational clinics to the need of our participants.  Court Observation Volunteers will receive a minimum of one hour orientation/training prior to participating in the program.  After orientation/training, LANC will need a commitment from each individual volunteer for this project of at least one hour per month for three months.

Qualifications

A sincere willingness to help others seek justice.  Any person interested in public interest or law-related matters.  The time flexibility of this project appears to be well-suited for college and graduate students.

Training

A resume or a letter of interest is required.  Solicitation for volunteers will remain open until the needs of the program are met.

About Winston-Salem Office

LANC of Winston-Salem provides legal services in civil (not criminal) matters for eligible clients who reside in a six-county area surrounding Winston-Salem, NC: Davie County, Forsyth County, Iredell County, Stokes County, Surry County and Yadkin County. LANC resources are very limited.  Our local Winston-Salem office (which has only six attorneys.  Part of our mission is to help empower people by educating them to represent themselves at forums that are conducive to self-help.  In the future, we plan to offer additional self-help legal clinics, as well as provide the public with access to several educational resources on different legal issues such as: unemployment insurance, health care directives, wills, power of attorneys (POAs), bankruptcy, domestic violence and child custody.
