Maccene Brown to manage
Legal Aid of North Carolina Pittsboro Office

(Pittsboro, NC) – Maccene Brown has been named the new managing attorney of
the Pittsboro office of Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC).
“Maccene Brown is an experienced litigator and managing attorney,” said George
Hausen, LANC executive director, “and has more than 20 years experience
serving clients in North Carolina. We expect her to ensure that the
LANC-Pittsboro office continues to provide high-quality legal work for our
clients, as well as excellent community and bar relations in the six counties
surrounding Pittsboro.”
As the managing attorney, Brown will supervise the eight-person legal staff
that provides free legal assistance in civil matters to low-income clients in
Alamance, Chatham, Lee, Moore, Orange and Richmond Counties. The
LANC-Pittsboro Office maintains offices in Pittsboro and Sanford.
“I am looking forward to working with the private bar, public and private
agencies and court officials to serve the legal needs of eligible clients,”
noted Brown.
Brown is a 1982 graduate of the North Carolina Central University School of
Law. She is a member of the North Carolina Bar and the NC Bar Association.
Brown has previously served as a staff attorney and managing attorney in the
LANC-Wilson Office, a staff attorney and managing attorney for the Land Loss
Prevention Project, an appeals referee for the NC Employment Security
Commission, and an attorney in private practice.
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) is a statewide, nonprofit law firm
that provides free legal services in civil matters to eligible, low-income
people in all 100 counties in North Carolina through 24, geographically located
offices in North Carolina. LANC’s clients typically have an annual income of
125% or less of the federally established poverty levels.
