Sharon Bey-Christopher to manage Legal Aid of North Carolina’s Wilson Office

(Wilson, NC) – Sharon Bey-Christopher has been named the new managing
attorney of the
Wilson office of Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC).
Bey-Christopher, formerly a partner in the law firm of Harley &
Bey-Christopher PLLC in Durham, will assume her new duties on July 15. She succeeds Maccene Brown, who is now the managing attorney of the
LANC-Pittsboro office.
“Sharon brings a proven record of legal experience and leadership experience
to our Wilson office,” said George Hausen, LANC executive director,
“and we expect her to ensure that the LANC-Wilson office continues to
provide high-quality legal work for our clients, as well as excellent
community and bar relations in the six counties surrounding Wilson.”
As the managing attorney, Bey-Christopher will supervise the 16-person legal
staff that provides free legal assistance in civil matters to low-income
clients in Edgecombe, Greene, Lenoir, Nash, Wayne and Wilson Counties. The
LANC-Wilson
Office has a primary office in Wilson and intake offices in
Goldsboro and Rocky Mount.
Bey-Christopher is a 1982 graduate of Rutgers University School of Law.
She is a member of the North Carolina Bar, Georgia Bar and New Jersey Bar;
is also licensed to practice in U.S. District Court for the Eastern, Middle
and Western Districts of North Carolina; and is a member of the NC Bar
Association.
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) is a statewide, nonprofit law firm that
provides free legal services in civil matters to eligible, low-income people
in all 100 counties in North Carolina through 24, geographically located
offices in North Carolina. LANC’s clients typically have an annual income
of 125% or less of the federally established poverty levels.
