Background:

Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) seeks to fill a staff attorney position in its Ahoskie office which serves clients primarily in Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Halifax, Hertford, Northampton, Pasquotank and Perquimans counties.  The selected applicant primarily will practice in the family law/domestic violence area, but the attorney will be trained and engaged in our general civil law practice, as well.  LANC is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3), law firm that provides free legal services in civil matters in all 100 counties of North Carolina to those households whose income falls below 125% of the federal poverty guidelines.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Interviewing and providing legal representation and advice to victims of domestic violence and other low-income clients. Working with domestic violence programs and other agencies in order to improve operations of local judicial systems for domestic violence victims. Providing outreach and legal education; and other responsibilities as may be assigned.

Qualifications:

North Carolina Bar license. Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to public interest law and a desire to work in a collaborative, relaxed and congenial environment. Proficiency in Spanish is preferred, but not required.

Salary:

$40,100+D.O.E. Excellent benefits and leave package.
