Background:
Legal
Aid of North Carolina (LANC) seeks
full-time managing attorney for its
Fayetteville Office, which serves low-income households in two
counties, Cumberland and Hoke, and the Fort Bragg Army base in North
Carolina. LANC is a statewide, nonprofit [501(c)3)]
law firm that provides free legal services in civil matters to those
households whose income typically falls below 125% of the federal
poverty guidelines.
Responsibilities & Duties:
The lawyer hired for the position will manage and direct
advocacy, mentor the young staff and build bar and community
relations. The managing attorney supervises volunteer lawyers,
law interns and other volunteers. In addition to supervisory
duties, the managing attorney is expected to handle a small
individual caseload involving various areas of our poverty law
practice and to participate at times in organizational projects
assigned by the executive director.
Qualifications:
Qualified applicants must have at least four years' experience as
an attorney in federal/state court litigation and a demonstrated
commitment to social justice and serving economically vulnerable
populations. The position requires that the candidate possess
excellent trial, verbal and writing skills, possess the ability to
retain a positive attitude under pressure, and possess a strong
commitment to building a collegial, dynamic and productive legal
team in Fayetteville, NC.. North Carolina State Bar license or
immediate eligibility for admission by comity required.
Applicants with legal services or public interest backgrounds are
especially encouraged to apply. Conversational Spanish is a
plus.
Salary:
$60,000+ DOE. Excellent benefits package.
