“Law Day” will be on May 6th in Wilson and surrounding counties

(Wilson, NC) – Legal Aid of North Carolina-Wilson Office has declared Friday, May 6, 2006 as “Law Day” in the 7th and 8th Judicial Districts of North Carolina.
 
To commemorate “Law Day,” attorneys of the 7th and 8th Judicial District Bars will speak with high school students across the area about the legal profession. The 7th Judicial District includes Edgecombe, Nash and Wilson Counties; the 8th Judicial District includes Greene, Lenoir and Wayne County.
 
“We are excited about Law Day,” noted Beverly Eason, private attorney involvement coordinator for LANC-Wilson Office. “Law Day focuses the public’s attention on the fact that the legal profession remains a profession of service. Law Day allows us to continue to strengthen that commitment.”
 
The Law Day Project promotes dialogue between local attorneys and high school students to help students plan their career goals.

Also, as a special treat to the students, Superior Court Judge Paul Jones will preside over a special session at the Lenoir County Court House, Kinston, NC on May 3, 2006. Judge Jones will talk with the local high school students about his perspective from the bench. The students will then observe an actual Criminal Superior Court session and the trial of several cases.
 
The Wilson office of Legal Aid of North Carolina serves low-income people in civil matters in Edgecombe, Greene, Lenoir, Nash, Wayne and Wilson Counties through its office in Wilson and two intake offices in Goldsboro and Rocky Mount.
 
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) is a statewide, nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services in civil matters to eligible, low-income people in all 100 counties in North Carolina through 24, geographically located offices in North Carolina. LANC’s clients typically have an annual income of 125% or less of the federally established poverty levels.
