Samuel Johnson elected to board of directors of Legal Aid of NC

Samuel B.
Johnson of Greensboro was
elected for a three-year term to the
board of directors of
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC)
during the 2008 LANC Annual Meeting in
Pine Knoll Shores, NC.
Johnson will serve on the LANC Board as a representative from the
NC Gay Advocacy
Legal Alliance.
Johnson has a J.D. from Yale
Law School and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Duke University. In
addition to the law and mathematics, his third great interest is
languages; he is bilingual in German and English and has studied
Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, modern Greek and ASL among other
languages.
Among his professional associations, Johnson is a member of NC Bar
Association; NC State Bar; and the NC Gay Advocacy Legal Alliance.
Johnson practiced law in Washington, DC for three years, primarily
in the area of federal administrative law. Most of that work
involved representing municipal airports from across the country
before the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). He is now a solo practioner in Greensboro and his practice is generally taken up by: (i)
family law; (ii) estate planning for moderate and lower income
couples, married and unmarried; (iii) competency matters; and (iv)
court appointed work.
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC)
is a statewide, nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services
in civil matters to eligible, low-income people in all 100 counties
in North Carolina
through 24, geographically located offices in North Carolina. LANC’s clients
typically have an annual income of 125% or less of the federally
established poverty levels. In 2007, LANC closed approximately
23,000 cases across North
