Legal Aid of NC elects new directors

(Raleigh, NC) – Eight North Carolinians were elected to serve on the board of directors of Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) during the 2008 LANC Annual Meeting in Pine Knoll Shores, NC.

The new directors include:  Auley M. “Lee” Crouch of Wilmington (attorney with
Block, Crouch, Keeter, Behm & Sayed, LLP); Mary Flowers of High Point (client representative); Samuel B. Johnson of Greensboro (attorney at law); Dellarene Myers of Wilkesboro (client representative); Ellen Sheppard of Williamston (client representative); James M. Talley, Jr. of Charlotte (attorney with Horack, Talley, Pharr & Lowndes, PA); Mary Ann Talley of Fayetteville (attorney with the Center for Death Penalty Litigation) and John R. Wester of Charlotte (attorney with Robinson, Bradshaw and Hinson, PA).   

Officers for 2008-09 include:
Chair: Glenn A. Barfield of Goldsboro (attorney with Haithcock, Barfield, Hulse and Kinsey, PLLC); Vice-Chair: Lisa Morgan of Durham (attorney with the North Carolina Central University School of Law); Treasurer: Celeste M. Harris of Winston-Salem (attorney and partner with with Maynard & Harris, PLLC); and Secretary: Phillip Leigh of Creswell (client representative).

Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) is a statewide, nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services in civil matters to eligible, low-income people in all 100 counties in North Carolina through 24, geographically located offices in North Carolina.  LANC’s clients typically have an annual income of 125% or less of the federally established poverty levels.  In 2007, LANC closed approximately 23,000 cases across North Carolina.  For additional information on LANC and its Board of Directors, visit the LANC website at www.legalaidnc.org.
