Mary Ann Tally elected to board of directors of Legal Aid of NC

NC) –
Mary Ann
Tally of Fayetteville was
elected for a three-year term to the
board of directors of
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC)
during the 2008 LANC Annual Meeting in
Pine Knoll Shores, NC.
Tally will serve on the LANC Board as a representative from the
NC Academy
of Trial Lawyers.
Tally is an attorney with the
Center for Death
Penalty Litigation and is a 1974 graduate
of the Duke Law School.
Tally is a member of
NC State Bar and NC
Academy of Trial Lawyers (NCATL). She serves as a member of
the NC
Indigent Defense Services Commission(NCIDSC).
She is also a past president of the NC Academy of Trial
Lawyers.
In 2001, Tally received both the
NLADA Reginald Heber Smith Award for Indigent Defense and
the
NACDL Champion of Indigent Defense Award.
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC)
is a statewide, nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services
in civil matters to eligible, low-income people in all 100 counties
in North Carolina
through 24, geographically located offices in North Carolina. LANC’s clients
typically have an annual income of 125% or less of the federally
established poverty levels. In 2007, LANC closed approximately
23,000 cases across North
