Legal Aid of NC and UNC School of Law to offer free advance
directives clinic in
Plymouth on March 9
February 15, 2010 MEDIA RELEASE,
LANC-Greenville Office
(Greenville, NC) –
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) and the
UNC School of Law
are teaming up to offer free advance directive legal services on
Tuesday, March 9 at the Washington County Senior Center
in Plymouth, NC.
Advance directives are legal documents that allow you to convey your
decisions about distribution of property and end-of-life care ahead
of time, such as wills, powers of attorney, healthcare powers of
attorney and living wills.
“These legal documents are critical tools that will help you
preserve your property for future generations, protect and build
your family’s wealth and let others know of your wishes related to
end-of-life care,” says Lesley Albritton, a staff attorney in
LANC’s Greenville Office. “Our free clinic will give
clients the opportunity to complete all legal requirements related
to their documents during their appointments.”
The advance directive documents will be drafted by law students and
reviewed by licensed attorneys. Eligible clients will have the
opportunity to complete all legal requirements (including signing,
witnessing and notarizing) during their appointments.
The law students will be working with and under the supervision of
attorneys from
Legal Aid of North Carolina, the
UNC Pro Bono Program and the
UNC Center for Civil Rights. Interviews will take place on
Tuesday, March 9 at the Washington County Senior Center located at
198 NC Hwy 45 N Street in Plymouth, NC.
These legal services will be provided free-of-charge, but
individuals must meet the eligibility requirements for Legal Aid of
North Carolina.
To determine if you are eligible for this program and to schedule an
appointment, contact Legal Aid of North Carolina’s
New Bern office at 252-637-9502 or
