Student Intern Volunteers (SIVs) are needed to:

    Help coordinate  ongoing projects
    Educate the community about the services that we provide
    Assist our advocates with their cases. 

A SIV will be utilized to do such things as: making community education presentations to groups and organizations; training community “Justice For All” volunteers; making calls for events and advocates; filing and copying client documents; following up information with clients; retrieving information from the courthouse and government agencies; traveling to other counties in our service area to retrieve information; being a liaison with community agencies and organizations; and observing the courtroom process. In addition, the SIVs will be required to meet the responsibilities, if any, of their university or school. The minimum time requirement is a commitment to assist our office for two hours per week for one month.

Qualifications

Must be a high school senior or currently enrolled college student. Must have a sincere willingness to help others seek justice. Should be interested in seeking a career in public interest or law-related fields. All volunteer interns will receive extensive orientation prior to being given any assignments. Training

Solicitation for Student Volunteer Interns (SIVs) remains open all year. Orientation sessions will be scheduled as needed.

About Winston-Salem Office

LANC of Winston-Salem provides legal services in civil (not criminal) matters for eligible clients who reside in a six-county area surrounding Winston-Salem, NC: Davie County, Forsyth County, Iredell County, Stokes County, Surry County and Yadkin County. LANC resources are very limited. Our local Winston-Salem office (which has only six attorneys. Part of our mission is to help empower people by educating them to represent themselves at forums that are conducive to self-help. In the future, we plan to offer additional self-help legal clinics, as well as provide the public with access to several educational resources on different legal issues such as: unemployment insurance, health care directives, wills, power of attorneys (POAs), bankruptcy, domestic violence and child custody.
