(March 6, 2008)
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) actively recruits, trains, mentors, and co-counsels
with volunteer (pro bono) attorneys to help handle the many complex
and changing legal issues unique to the practice of civil poverty law.
These partnerships with the Legal Aid of North Carolina staff help ensure access
to justice for low-income families and further leverage the dollars
that are invested in Legal Aid of North Carolina. Typically, pro bono attorneys
are needed either for their special expertise and/or to help us with
our large case load.
Qualifications
Our volunteer (pro bono) attorneys must be licensed in North Carolina
and have a sincere willingness to help others seek justice.
Training
Our local
Private
Attorney (PAI) Coordinator will work
with you to find cases or opportunities (such as co-counseling, presentations
at clinics or amicus briefs) that best fit your expertise and schedule.
Additionally, the Winston-Salem Office occasionally offers CLEs that
provide information on substantive civil matters encountered in poverty
law. In all situations, our staff will work with you to orient you to
our office protocol and best practices.
