Legal Aid of North Carolina elects
new directors

(Raleigh, NC) – Seven North Carolinians were elected to serve on the
board of directors
of Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) during the 2006 LANC Annual Meeting in
Atlantic Beach, N.C.
The new directors include: Helen Cook of Fayetteville (client
representative); Nancy Edmunds Hannah of Raleigh (attorney with
Vann & Sheridan,
LLP); Phillip Leigh of Creswell (client representative); Gregg M. McDougal
of Raleigh (attorney with
Kilpatrick Stockton, LLP); Lisa Morgan of Durham (attorney with
NC Central School of Law);
Paul C. Shepard of Winston-Salem (Paul
C. Shepard, Attorney at Law); and Dianna Williams-Cotton of Winston-Salem
(client representative).
Those re-elected for a second, three-year term included: Reid “Cal” Adams
of Winston-Salem (attorney with
Womble Carlyle
Sandridge & Rice, PLLC); Glenn A. Barfield of Goldsboro (attorney with
Barnes Braswell & Haithcock, PA); Sarah Davis of Apex (client representative);
Raymond E. “Ray” Owens, Jr. of Charlotte (attorney with
Kennedy Covington
Lobdell Hickman, LLP); and Charles R. Ward of Lake Waccamaw (client
representative).
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) is a statewide, nonprofit law firm
that provides free legal services in civil matters to eligible, low-income
people in all 100 counties in North Carolina through 24, geographically located
offices in North Carolina. LANC’s clients typically have an annual income of
125% or less of the federally established poverty levels. In 2005, LANC
closed more than 19,000 cases across North Carolina.
