John J. Bowers elected to board of directors of Legal Aid of NC

NC) –
John J. Bowers of Durham was
elected for a three-year term to the
board of directors of
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC)
during the 2007 LANC Annual Meeting in Asheville, N.C.
Bowers will serve on the LANC Board as a representative from the
14th Judicial District (Durham County).
Bowers is an attorney in the law firm of
Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge & Rice, PLLC,
in the Research Triangle Park, and is a 1992 graduate
of the Duke University School of Law. He also has a masters of
business from the Duke University Fuqua School of Business.
Among his professional associations, Bowers is a member of the
Board of Directors of the Durham County Bar Association; 14th
Judicial District Bar and Durham Bar Foundation; North Carolina
State Bar; and the New York State Bar. He
also is involved with the North Carolina Technology
Association (NCTA); Defense Research Institute (DRI); North Carolina
Association of Defense Attorneys (NCADA); Durham Chamber of
Commerce; and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce.
Bowers has served on the Local Advisory Board for the Legal Aid of
North Carolina-Durham Office. He also provides pro bono
service for the North Carolina Guardian Ad Litem Program.
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC)
is a statewide, nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services
in civil matters to eligible, low-income people in all 100 counties
in North Carolina through 24, geographically located offices in
North Carolina. LANC’s clients typically have an annual income of
125% or less of the federally established poverty levels. In
2005, LANC closed more than 19,000 cases across North Carolina.
