Background:
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC)
is seeking a Private Attorney Involvement (PAI) coordinator/
paralegal to work in its
Smithfield Office, which provides free legal assistance in civil
matters to low-income persons in Harnett, Johnston and Sampson
Counties of North Carolina. LANC is a statewide, nonprofit
[501(c)(3)] law firm that provides free legal services in civil
matters to those households whose income falls below 125% of the
federal poverty guidelines.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Recruit and maintain professional relationships with private
attorneys in the LANC-Smithfield Office service area. Assist in identifying private
attorneys to handle certain cases pro bono and compile and present
PAI cases to them. Provide support to legal staff, including:
screening and interviewing clients, maintaining client files,
general office typing, computer data entry, providing relief on
switchboard, and doing other duties, as assigned. After training,
the paralegal may also counsel and represent clients in
administrative matters under supervision of an attorney and perform
other related responsibilities.
Qualifications:
Must have proficient computer skills and be able to multi-task. Must be organized, an effective writer and an effective
communicator. Prior paralegal experience, certification, education
or strong casework, social work experience will be considered. Notary Public or eligible to obtain. Valid NC Drivers License. Fluency in Spanish a plus.
Salary:
$23,400+ DOE. Excellent benefits package. Relaxed office
atmosphere.
