Background:
Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC)
is seeking a paralegal to work in its
Greenville office, which provides free legal assistance in civil
matters to low-income persons in Pitt, Martin, Washington, Hyde and
Tyrrell counties. LANC is a statewide, nonprofit [501(c)3] law
firm that provides free legal services in civil matters to those
households whose income falls below 125% of the federal poverty
guidelines.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Provide support to legal staff in all practice areas, including
but not limited to: screening and interviewing clients seeking
assistance, directly assisting and representing clients under the
supervision of a licensed attorney, doing legal research, drafting
legal documents, maintaining client files, general office typing,
computer data entry, providing relief on the switchboard, driving on
office errands, and doing other duties, as assigned. Act as
liaison to the private bar for pro bono recruitment and referrals.
Qualifications:
Prior paralegal experience, certification, education or strong
casework, social work experience will be considered. Knowledge
of office practices, procedures and equipment; extensive prior
computer experience; prior receptionist experience a plus; Spanish
proficiency preferred. Notary Public or eligible to obtain.
Valid NC Drivers License.
Salary:
$23,400+ DOE. Excellent benefits package. Relaxed
office atmosphere.
