Job #404

Background:

Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) is seeking part-time staff attorneys to work in its Senior Law Project (SLP) hotline unit, which provides referrals and thorough legal assistance and counseling over the telephone in civil matters to senior citizens in North Carolina.  The SLP utilizes staff attorneys in four-hour shifts; the number of shifts are limited to a maximum of three or four per week; and the scheduling is flexible.  LANC is a statewide, nonprofit 501(c)(3) law firm that provides free legal services in civil matters to those households whose income generally falls below 125% of the federal poverty guidelines.

Must be licensed to practice law in North Carolina.  A manifest commitment to public interest law is essential.  We are especially interested in applicants who can enjoy extensive client contact and can efficiently, but patiently, explain the law in a friendly, non-condescending manner.  Spanish or other foreign language proficiency a definite plus.

$20.00-$22.00 per hour.  Malpractice insurance included.  Relaxed office atmosphere.
