Clarify homeownership/heir property
Many organizations that help with home repairs or replacements after a disaster require clear ownership of land. This includes recovery programs, such as ReBuild NC.
Some kinds of ownership can make it harder to get assistance. Was your land owned by a parent or grandparent who did not have a will? Do you own your land with several other relatives? Do you not have a deed with just your name on it? If so, your land might be heir property. If land is heir property, there can be many owners at the same time. This can make it more difficult to show clear ownership and get help repairing or rebuilding your home.
If you’re a Hurricane Florence or Matthew survivor who thinks you might live on heir property or otherwise have unclear ownership of your land, we may be able to help clarify ownership of your property and help you get recovery assistance.
